Ep. 4: Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka: UN Women Executive Director and Under-Secretary General | Strength Lies in Unity

U.N. Women Executive Director and U.N. Under-Secretary General Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka joined host Mungi to discuss her life-long activism that began during apartheid South Africa. “During my youth, it was easier to be an activist than not to be. There was just so much to fight for, and also the system was fighting back.”

She also spoke about the importance education plays for her as well as the need for integrity that must accompany it. She discusses how she held onto the hope for justice in apartheid South Africa as well as the idea behind the need for ‘HeforShe’ campaign, the global effort to engage men and boys in removing the social and cultural barriers that prevent women and girls from achieving their full potential. Her commitment to social justice, activism and equity for women and girls is a testament to the Ubuntu lesson 'Strength lies in unity'.
